1926 . Edwin Critchlow, 18, general dealer,, married May Brown , 17, Morpeth Jun 1926 on 17/4/1926, in Seaton Hirst Parish Church. Her address 111 Portia Street, his 4 Bungalow, North Seaton Rd. . Her father William Brown, miner. His James Critchlow, general dealer . Witnesses Frederick George Critchlow- his 1900 elder brother- & Beatrice E Critchlow Buttle- likely his 1908 sister, missing from 1911C: could she have been adopted ??

They had met at the fairground where he was working. May's parents warned her to stop seeing him or be banned from their house. And, once married, May never entered her parents' house again. Their daughter, Audrey, the only one of their children who passed the 11+, was welcomed in her Brown grandparents' home "William Brown( a strict no nonsense Methodist) had little regard for Eddie Critchlow, likening him to a somewhat Fly-by- night character, the complete antithesis of the teachings of the Methodist Church,"
They had: Edwin Critchlow 1927, Audrey Critchlow 1929, Ronald Critchlow 1931, Margaret J Critchlow 1934 , all born Morpeth
& Michael Critchlow NorthC Sep 1946 - still alive 2016-
What is Audrey's father's occupation on her 1929 b.c.?

15/7/2016: it was interesting to learn you had found a "Frederick ", although I never knew my uncle by that name. -- he was always Uncle Fred, my fathers brother . uncle Fred was always considered (certainly by my Mum) to be the "posh" one in the family and he certainly gave that impression. I know very little of him, only that his wife was Auntie Mary who was a Nursing Sister, they had two children, Charles who I believe was something to do with the police force and Gay/Gale who until a few years ago had a very popular coffee shop in Morpeth, is now of course retired . they lived in a small village by the name of Pegswood (Northumberland). auntie Mary lived into her 90,s & Died only a few years ago, I have no memory of uncle Fred,s death. reference to Francis -I ,m thinking this could slot in somewhere with my grannie on my Dad,s side, again I can only remember him calling her "Fanny" & Francis in his better moods. I do remember my granddad having a thriving fruit & veg business, albeit it was selling from a horse & cart !!! I doubt whether Ann would have much on the Critchlow side as she would be going for the Browns - I could ring her - Audrey
