1901C. Missing from the Cardiff family home. Living, for an unknown while, in Streatham, London with his married sister Catherine Wooldrige. But Gill thinks he, along with brother Harold, was mainly raised by sister Annie back in Cardiff, his mother worn down by so many children..

1910. His mother dies

1911C. Back with his family in Cardiff, aged 15, already a shop assistant.

He played football for Swansea Town! Gill has been in contact with Swansea City football club historian and they don't have any record of him playing for the first team.but there are no records of the reserves or if he played in the play offs? Her brother Peter has a football medal from Walter. She will get him to find it .

1914. Joined the Royal Devonshire Regiment in September in Exeter. Enlisted 7/7/1914 in Swansea..

His army record states that he had been working as a shop assistant for 5 years at Philipps, 9/10 Edwards Place, Cardiff. . Next of kin given as James Gosling, St. Johns, New Brunswick. Sent to France July 1915. Discharged due to ill health in March 1918, having been injured in the leg in 1917. Gained the Military Medal. Address he returned to was 8 Graving Dock Street, Barry, Glamorgan - this was where his eldest brother Charles Benjamin Gosling 1874 lived. Pages from his Army Record can be found at Walter Service. He lost his right leg, just above the knee in WW1 , having a metal leg strapped over his shoulders by leather strapes

1919. Walter Henry Gosling, 24, marries Kate Clissold, 22, on 21/12/1919, he a shop assistant, in the parish Church of Whitchurch, by banns. His address was Newport Rd, Bedwas, hers 69 Caerphily Road. His father given as James Gosling, carpenter & joiner, hers as Samuel Clissold, Infirmary Porter. . Witnesses Rose Vera Clissold & Morgan Richard Thomas. [ Kate Clissold was born Devonport}

1921. Terence W Gosling born Sep 1921 Cardiff on 21/8/1921 in his grandparents house,Caerphilly Rd Birchgrove Cardiff - maternal grandparents. He remembered going on the bread round with a horse and cart: the buildings are no longer there & the road has been widened. "How my grandfather managed a horse and cart with only one leg" Gill does not know. b.c.? Gill was taken as a girl to see the bake house and house along with the field next door :they kept the horse there.- Gill. m.c.?

1925. Raymond Gosling born Jun1925 Newport M. Died 25/4/1925 aged 1 hour due to Premature Birth-7 mths & Inanition?? 1 hour, at Newport Rd ,Bedwas. Father W H Gosling given as a Grocers Assistant.

~1926 He returned to Cardiff in about 1925-6 to work again with Phillips tea co. in Churchill Way Cardiff. He stayed with them till he retired on his 65th birthday 24/05/1960. He retired as the shop manager : he went and the shop closed - Gill

Walter kept in touch with his sister, Louisa Hopkins, in Canada: photos have been passed down to his granddaughte, Gill, that were sent from Canada - 1916-1927.

1931. Shop assistant on the probate for his eldest brother, Charles Benjamin Gosling..

1939 Register. Walter H Gosling, shop assistant grocery, is living Abbeville , St Agnes Road, Cardiff , just with his wife

Anne remembers him as a very quiet unassuming man and not a womaniser like some of the other brothers. His wife Kate was more assertive. His only, surviving, son, Terence became chief Tax Inspector for Cardiff.

His wife Kate Gosling/Clissold dies 1988.

Terence Walter Gosling dob 21/08/1921 married Kathleen Muir Whitehead (dob 14/04/1923 Hollingsworth Cheshire) 07/10/1946 Colwyn Bay .Terry died 02/02/2006 Cardiff.. Kathleen died 14/12/1999 Cardiff. Their children were Gillian Muir Gosling born 1950 Cardiff and Peter Terence Gosling born 1955 Cardiff.
