1881C. George Brown , 25, coal miner, is living Bedlington with his parents . Was unsure that this was he without his 1882 mc. There is amother George Brown, 25, coal miner, living Bedlington with a wife Annie , & many other George Browns of the right age in Northumberland . But, likely him, as he does call his 1st son William. But there still could be 2 Georges with fathers William! And family lore knows that his grandfather was Drydon Brown

Earsdon ~ 10k SSE of Old Hartley. Both near Whitley Bay . The Horton most likely being referred to- 1891C- barely exists apart from a decommissioned church and churchyard but was at one time a thriving community not far from East and West Hartley and near Blyth, Bedlington and Cramlington.

1882. George Brown likely married Jane Ann Snowden or Jane Johnson Morpeth Mar 1882 -have proved it is the latter- see end of page . This m.c would confirm her name, but now confident he married Jane Johnson. No certificate on Ancestry/FMP/FS

Judith West[ daughter of Gladys Brown 1922]  told me that Jane his wife had been a widow when she married and had two daughters by her first marriage - hence the appearance of Janet (b 1881) in the 1901 census. This might help in sorting out which Jane he married. Judith thought Janet and Emily were the daughters of the first marriage but Emily's dates don't fit - unless she was named after a step-sister who died - I haven't checked that.  According to Aunty Gladys their youngest daughter Mary had long fair hair. Sorry don't have any knowledge of their deaths.-Anne . This info. backs my thoughts that she was Jane Johnson, & have now proved she is from the 1852 & 1862 birth dates of the 2 candidates - so do not need the 1882mc.

1881C- there is a Jane Johnson, 30, widow, b. Bedlington, living Bedlington with a daughter, Jane A Johnson born 1880 Bedlington: likely Morpeth Jun 1880 - this could be the Janet Brown who appears in 1901C!! A Jane Ann Johnson born Morpeth Jun 1880 - have not searched for her in 1891C. . East Sleekburn only ~ 3 k NE of Bedlington . Her husband could have been James Johnson who died, aged 30 Morpeth 1880, and he in turn had married a Jane Coxon Morpeth Dec 1871 . Jane Coxon b. Bedlington, living Sleekburn in 1861C &1871C , father a farmer,- see end of page

1882 .William Brown, born 22/11/1882, Red Row, to George & Jane . This b.c would give his mother, Jane, but have determined who she is
