1. Francis Desmond R Hynes 30/1/1918-15/1/1964 . Born Poplar Lodge , Cabra, Glasnevin
He joined the Royal Air Force on 17th August 1939, being commissioned into the Equipment Branch. Appointed a Pilot Officer on 23rd October 1939, he was upgraded to Flying Officer one year later, - London Gazette- made a Flying officer (31446) in 1940 . Appointed a war service Flight Lieutenant on 1st October 1945. Shot down in 1942
Ref the photo of Desmond in the jeep, my mother used to tell a story of her being smuggled by her brother and friends into the Portsmouth restricted area prior to D-Day. Desmond was part of the invasion force as a RAF liaison officer. Not sure which day he landed

After the War he remained in the RAF.
He was a temporary Squadron leader from July 1945 until November 1947, and became a fulltime Squadron Leader on 1st July 1948. He retired on 24th September 1959, being medically unfit.. Never married, 'liked a drink'. Died in Gibraltar

Squadron Leader Terence G. Hynes, DFC.
He joined the RAF on 4th March 1939, and became a Pilot Officer on 28th November 1939, later a Flying Officer in 1940, and a Flight Lieutenant in 1941
He was a member of 44 Squadron based at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire.
He was the pilot of a Hampden Bomber, P4372, which was lost in an operation against Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on the night of 29 August 1940. He was captured and was a prisoner of war in Germany until May 1945.
“Dear Fishy”, starts one memorable letter in the lot from a chum, TG Hynes, who was taken prisoner of war and ended up in Stalag XXA (5) “I am here after a lovely parachute jump. Poor Dunkels wasn’t so lucky.”
Hynes recalls one of their drinking holes, “The Snakepit”, and remarks that the beer where he is “isn’t up to Cornhill standard.”

gives Terence G Hynes was shot down on 29/8/1940 at Glenererhine . , then a POW until May 1945, held at Oflad6B
He was awarded the DFC on 22/11/1940: this could have been due to his mission on 29/8/1940
He remained in the RAF after the war, becoming a Squadron Leader on 1st November 1947. He retired on 23rd August 1953.
Could have married Sarah M Duignan??- name sound familiar Paul?? Was he the ucle who went to Canada??

A Charles Denis Hynes travelled from Southampton to Hong Kong on 16/1/1957 . He was of Enfield House, Windmill Hill NW3, a grocer- this odd but no Charles Hynes born England 1921-1923!!!- Ancestry, but cannot refind!!!

Ita V Hynes married James C Morefield Harrow Mar 1957.
They had 3 daughters: Tracey J Morefield Harrow Jun 1957; Dara & Kieron, both likely born in Ireland . James Carl Morefield was an American Airforce Sergeant posted in England- he also served in Korea and Vietnam .. He and Ita divorced and he returned to the States- died there 30/11/2000, buried Arlington
2017. I V Morefield - nee Hynes- died, aged 91, peacefully, on 17/2/2017 in Bedford Hospital . Originally of Prospect Square, Glasnevin, then Great Yarmouth, and Bedford U.K. She leaves 3 daughters, Dara, Tracy and Keron. Funeral at Bedford Crematorium on March 9 (Arnold Funeral Service, +44 (0) 1234 359 529). God Bless. Cannot be found on Ancestry's 1989-2019 Death Index!!
