James Burton likely born around 1890
supposed / alleged father of George Edward Burton Newman - solely due to the fact that this name was entered as his father on his m.c., with the profesion of Publican . This could all well have been invented!
He was engaged to Elizabeth Newman's sister, Violet Newman
Have not found anyone with surname Butler living in the Kings Lynn area on the 1911C.that would have been engaged to Violet
There is a james Burton b.Sustead 1878
Violet said he was still alive in the ?1970s, and living in Sutton Bridge, but I cannot find a death for any suitable Burton 1960-1980
In a 2004 letter to Margaret, Pam's daughter, Judy, said that whilst Violet was still compus mentis, Violet had talked to Pam about her fiance; he lived and worked in Sutton Bridge and was still alive when she told all of this to Pam- she suggested Margaret did some sleuthing with Tilly .
Could Judy date this 'story' to the early 70s, late 70s, early 80s ??
1975, A James Barber Burton b.21/10/1881 diess E.Dereham- well to the E of Kings Lynn, . . or
1960, a James Burton 83, dies Kings Lynn
In the 1939 census there is a James W Butler, master ladder maker, born 9/11/1884 with a wife Emma, living Sutton Bridge - but they could have married in 1905
Feel it is very unlikely we will ever be able to determine who he was!
