They had 5 sons & 4 daughters who survived until his death in 1908

Cannot find any military record, pension, for him on Ancestry/FMP. but his naval record is given in his obituary- 1908.
Kingsand & Cawsand are twin villages in SE Cornwall . The border between Devon and Cornwall was between the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. This probably changed somewhere in the middle of the 19th Century.
There was a pub called the Halfway House on the old border, and our friends house was called Boundary House opposite the pub.

This is the first mention I have found of a middle name of Elford! - but there is the 1863 marriage entry in bmd of John Elford . No probate. Buried in Maker Church on 21/9/1908, ref F-001
