His parents were probably Marmaduke and Sarah Parks as while the name John Park(e)s is common in Derbyshire a John Parks, son of Marmaduke and Sarah (Mee) Parks was born on 8th September 1807 and baptised at St Michael's Lane Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Derby, ( image on Ancestry) on 14th September 1807. _FS . Other children were: Frances 1810; Ann 1812; Mary 1815; Eliza 1817.

Marmaduke Parkes had married Sarah Mee in 1806 Derby All Saints -FMP

He appears in 1851C and 1861C, widower by then, & 1871, in an Alms House in Derby . He was a master whitesmith . Dies, aged 89, in 1873- no probate for this year .

Also Marmaduke Parkes marries Hannah Barker on 8/10/1835- so presumably Sarah had died

John Parkes married Sarah Sowter at St Werburgh, Derby on 13 August 1835 -FS . Note that in 1835 it was not possible to marry in a Methodist church.

They went out to the West Indies by 1836, as son, John Sowter Parkes, was born there in August 1836

John Sowter Parkes was baptised 22/9/1836 to John & Sarah Parkes - FS Nonconformist registers.Paternoster Row Wesleyan Methodist Registry, London, England. Born 16/8/1836 at Sandy Point, St Kitts- this from Partridge-Lefridge Ancestry family tree
