2. John Joseph born 8/8/1893 - Tramore -1976 . He served in the British Army during WW1 His civilian job had been a coachman . Married Ellen/Eily Dunne in Newbawn, Co. Wexford in 1928.   They lived in Patrick St., Tramore and had 5 children:

Joseph P (Freddie) b.1929; d.2014      unmarried
Mary (Mamie) b.1932; d.2002            unmarried
John H             b.1933
Nicholas F (Frank) b.1935; d.199?
Catherine (Kathleen) b.1941

Of these, only John had offspring.  Frank got married late in life but had no children. John Joe went into the British Army at the time of WWI and he only died in 1976. John Joe and son Freddy were the local undertakers

Recollections of John Joe by Nick - please

Patrick Street, Tramore, that’s where John Joe (Martin’s eldest surviving son) lived with his family.  Possibly, they lived in the same house where JJ’s grandfather, Nicholas, died in 1923( no street mentioned on his d.c.).  JJ’s son Freddie and daughter Mamie lived there until death.  JJ ran a construction business out of there. Freddie was the local undertaker, hackney service and with a garage and second-hand car business at the top of the street.  Freddie was an interesting character and, because of his profession, knew everybody in Tramore and where they were buried.  Unfortunately, he died 2014

Another brother, Frank, got married late in life and lived further down in Patrick St but I think he bought that house rather than acquiring it from within the family.

Queen St has been mentioned a few times.?? Chris in the dark here   Nicholas lived there when Pa got married- ?? this 1890 & Nicholas lived Peter Street 1870-1911 at least! .  Later, PP and his family lived there.  I cannot say if it was in the same house.  Q. St. is the only Tramore family house I’ve never been in.-Nick

Is the late John A Fitzgerald , died 2015, the John H born 1932???. Where did Nick get John H from?? John Fitzgerald married Mary Branley in Drumcondra Dublin on 3/4/1961

The King children belong to Bridget F, 1908, & Johnie King. Shel & Eddie F are children of Thomas /PP F 1902

Tosh may have been illegitimate: he was brought up by his father in Moonvoy (Tramore) and seemingly had no other relatios. .  “Tosh” often substituted for “Patrick”.

3 'adopted' children '- thought to be children of Martin

1. Mamie ~1922-1969

As to Mamie, it is thought her mother may have been a Mrs Doody living in Ducks Walk in Tramore.  But that could have been just gossip – who knows.

"Mrs Doody" was indeed Mamie's mother, as confirmed by Johnnie (presumably, some time ago) but this may have been an assumed name in order to "tick boxes" in the Waterford institution where she was born, and which was run by nuns - Little Sisters of the Poor.. No female Doody/Dooley born 1920-1925 in Waterford on RI

Johnnie Hearne’s DoB was 27 March 1948; his sister Maureen’s was probably in 1950.  Maureen does indeed still live in Tramore under her married name of Corcoran.  In fact, there were two younger boys: Thomas and Anthony.

A Mary Fitzgerald was born to Martin Fitzgerald, van driver, at 2 Alphonsus Road 24/3/1913! Mother Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, nee Butler - this seemingly a red herring!

It is thought that Granddad Martin FitzGerald was the father of several children ‘out of wedlock’.  One of these was Mamie (Mary?).  She was a bit younger than Teresa, was raised with the family - and much loved by her father.  The two young girls were and remained great pals.  Mamie married Thomas (Tosh) Hearne, born ~1915-9.  They lived in Marrian Park, Tramore and had four children: John 1948, Maureen 1950 and 2 much younger boys, Thomas & Anthony

Mamie Fitzgerald is mentioned in the Waterford Standard of 4/7/1936 in a Tramore Foursome reel. And again on 4/6/1938

1969. Mamie died quite young, aged 46, at 59 Marian Terrace, Tramore, of a haemorrage, her husband a commercial traveller .  Tosh died a few years ago, 2011,aged 96

2. Martin Kirby?- nothing known. Just discovered, 2/12/2021, Martin´s younger sister, Katherine 1885,

married David Kirby,a labourer, ( Fegan Ancestry FT) in 1907 and had children Martin 9/2/1918 -1996, Mary( cannot find her birth, maybe too late for Irishgen) , Nicholas 1909, Johanna 1914, Thomas 1920-1996 from who Linda Fegan is descended I .have also found a David Kirby 19/4/1916 on Irishgen

Could he, Martin 1918, born Tramore, father a labourer, have been raised by Martin Fitzgerald??

David Kirby father was a van driver by 1920. And an Eliza Hayden was the informant on all the 1916 David bc , 1918 Martin bc and the 1920 Thomas bc.

2/12/2021 Worth contacting Linda Fegan?

The release of the 1921 census miht help, but this probably not freely available until 2023!!

3. Another boy?? - nothing known

There were two others; boys, probably.  One was possibly named Kirby.  I’m curious about these kids.  Mom always said they (Mamie, at any rate) were ‘adopted’.  Understandably, she didn’t discuss them further.  All will have been born after 1918.  Only recently did it emerge that Martin was something of a ‘wandering gardener’ who cast his seed rather less than carefully.

There were 13 children officially born to them plus 3 more to Martin only . Mary was the last born to her poor mother in 1918, as you’ve seen.   Nick only ever knew 8 of them, plus another half-sister Mary (Mamie) who married Thomas (Tosh) Hearne, all in Tramore.  Only 5 of them got married but they produced about 35 children between them.  The second Bridie managing an eye-watering 16; 2 dying as infants
