Earlier Mesnard
Still to tidy/ make comprehensible!
1784. Dinah Mesnard was born in Southwark to Stephen & Elizabeth - their 4th daughter . Thus the grandaughter of the Stephen Mesnard 1717-1775, the mariner who had left N.Y
Going back: Stephen Mesnard was born 12/10/1749 to Stephen Mesnard 1717-1775 & Lucy Brapple. He married Elizabeth Bennett on 13/8/1769 in Hanover Square, Westminster and died 19/3/1824 Lewisham
Stephen Mesnard 1717 was born, in N Y., to Daniel Mesnard ~1675-1737 who married Elizabeth Vincent . Daniel was born in Marennes, Santoigne, France( SW of Rochefort, opposite Ile d'Oleron ) and seemingly went to New York and died there

. Stephen 1717 seemingly came to England from America, married Lucy Brapple in St Giles Camberwell 12/1/1748 and died St John Horsleydown on 14/1/1775
Also, on a post: I know of two sons of Danial Mesnard went to London and stayed before the R-War. Steve was one for sure. I think Andre was the other.
Also found the Will of Stephen Mesnard who died 1775:

A Ron Mesnard in the States is writing a book on the Mesnards which, if it ever appears, may flesh out their early lifein New York. I don't think he has investigated the Mesnard history in France. - Christopher McGonigal
Stephan's parents were Daniel Mesnard and Elizabeth Vincent. Daniel was from a well to-do family however, they died. His God Father Jacques Dubois was a government official who forged his own visa after the borders were closed to Huguenots. When Jacques died about 1686 his wife kicked him out of her house penniless. He worked for the Vincents who were ship outfitters. They left him a good bit of the family business.
Stephan was most likely named after Stephan Delancey. I can not prove this. Stephan Delancey a Huguenot was the richest man in the new world. He educated his eldest son, James, in England. I believe it was the best money could buy at the time. I am sure he was given a handsome allowance so that he could make friends. James was the only commoner to sit in the governor’s chair of NY. He held the position 3 times. Twice as a temporary position the last as a permanent position. He also presided as the head of the Supreme Court in NY. He was the most powerful person in the New World.
The Delanceys were probably responsible for giving Daniel government contracts.
Stephan Mesnard was most likely a wheeler-dealer. He maintained a house on Duke Street while he lived in England. Only the wealthiest persons could afford to live there. Maintaining the house there was a sign of opulence. He probably did business in NYC from time to time.
I have no dates on Daniel or Elizabeth. They were most likely married at the end of the 17th century in NYC. I have conflicting dates on Daniel's death. I have him witnessing a will 1745, 5 years after a different document indicated that he was dead circa 1740. The baptisms for all their children have survived. I will be applying to make Daniel an official Huguenot. Both Daniel and Elizabeth were born in France and were members of one of the only two Huguenot churches in the US.
Stephan I was was baptised Esteinne Mesnard August 28, 1717.
