1834. He went to Southport for his health. George Greatbatch, his future father in law, introduced him to William Jolley, draper. Samuel became an assistant and then a partner in what then became Jolley & Boothroyd

1860. Southport Pier was opened: The chairman of the Company [that built it] stated that it "had mainly originated with Mr Boothroyd, who..had steadily pursued his object and brought it into shape".
1860s. Chapel Street members set out to build a 2nd, larger church : Alderman Samuel Boothroyd + William Hinmers prime movers, and Hinmers purchased site. Corner of Lord and Birkdale Streets, close to the "Duke's Folly" Hotel where G Greatbatch had some years back held services.
page 34 IV WEST END AND BIRKDALE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCHES NOTE 1. In early life he came to Southport, where, from " small beginnings, he raised himself to a high position, occupying many important offices in the town, and being called to fill four times the important office of Mayor." (Rev. John Chater, in the "Lancashire Congregational Calendar" for 1886.) The church at West End is not the only memorial of his efforts to extend Congregationalism in the town, for the Trafalgar Road Church felt at his decease that a generous friend had been taken away." He was known also as the "Father of the Council."

In Remembrance of SARAH wife of Samuel Boothboyd who died March 16th 1865 aged 55 years. Also of Samuel Hurst Boothroyd son of the above who was drowned whilst bathing July 9th 1863 aged 12 years
1866. Samuel Boothroyd re marries Eliza Ashton Greenwich Sep 1866 . She is ~ 40 and there are, seemingly, no more children

His death took place on April 26th, 1886, at the age of seventy-two years, after a residence in Southport of fifty-two years.

In Loving Memory of Samuel Boothroyd of Warley House, Southport, who died 26th April 1886, aged 71 years. His wife Sarah Greatbatch and his wife Eliza Ashton are both remembered on the back of the Monument.
