1795. Hannibal Marks was baptised Rame on 10/5/1795 to Hannibal & Mary Marks - Cornwall OPC but Above tree says his mother was Sarah Mary Spiller: maybe known by her middle name?
1818.Hannibal Marks married Susanna Spriddle on 3/12/1818 in St Andrew, Plymouth
But above book- yet to finish- sugests his 2 Hannibal Ancestors, 1720 & 1765, were smugglers! and, perhaps, he and his son Hannibal too
1819. Hannibal Marks 4 born. He sailed for New Zealand aboard the Regina in 1840 , maybe?? after killing a Preventative Officer on the cliffs near Rame - from the book "Hannibal Marks" by Prideaux Skelton
~1820. Hannibal Marks 3 apparently captured by the dreaded Preventative and placed in Bodmin gaol, awaiting trial for smuggling. Seemingly his father, Hannibal Marks 2, attempted to rescue him from there (from Skelton 'novel' ). Book ends here !! Suspect he was tried and got 5 years in Navy without pay
1820. Likely arrested for smuggling and taken to Bodmin gaol- Bodmin prison records on Ancestry only start in 1821!!
Hannibal, smuggler, was in the service of the RN up to 1825- this without pay " This served in consequence of a a conviction" , based in Falmouth 1820-1822, Tamar 1822-1825. Then aboard ships 1825-1847, when he retired- RN Pension Record on Ancestry
1831. William Henry Marks was born to Hannibal & Susanna
They seem to have had 7 children: Hannibal 4 20/3/1819; John 1829; Elizabeth 1829; William Henry 1831; Pascoe 1834; Susanna 1836; Mary 1840
1841C.. His wife and family were living Strand, Maker, St.Germans, Cornwall . For birthplace, Devon was seemingly Cornwall!! Border was actually just south of Maker: so, in those times, Maker was Devon, but Cawsand was Cornwall. But this distinction did not hold for where they lived!! Hannibal Marks would have been at sea with the RN.
