This was stepping back in time- a stroll round an open air museum. We entered the church & chatted to a 90yr old before reaching the fort

ibo-fort

Built in 1781 and last restored in 1953, the Fort of São João Baptista do Ibo is the second largest fortification of Mozambique. Star-shaped and located next to the sea, the fortress has interior buildings, able to house about 300 men, and a chapel, as well as 15 iron cannon.

Today the fort is home to several of Ibo’s legendary silversmiths, who work on fine sliver jewellery in rooms underneath the fort’s battlements, but it’s history is violent and bloody as a slave trading station

Then the Boyzz drove our zodiac back to the ship
